Contents of the subject

Key qualifications are essential prerequisites for success in the course of study and in the working world. Social skills, intercultural competence, responsibility, communicative competence and instrumental competence are to be taught and practiced under practical aspects.

Companies in the modern business world are turning to new ways of working such as Design Thinking and Lean Start-Up to keep pace with constantly evolving marketplaces and technological advancements. The visual tools and methods of Visual Thinking support these new working practices by making information, ideas, concepts and processes visible and thus accessible to all.
Visual Thinking extends the verbal and written language using visualization methods that enable the graphic representation of ideas and complex content. In the new world of design thinking, agile innovation, lean start-up, etc., this is essential.

Qualification aims of the subject

During the course students learn:
- to understand thinking and communication problems and practice various methods of solving them visually.
- visualisation skills through practical exercises.
- to effectively develop their thinking and the structured exchange of ideas, concepts and information (knowledge, data, processes etc.) using visual tools and methods.

On completion of this course the student will be able to demonstrate:
- An understanding of the theoretical aspects of visual thinking
- The ability to think and communicate visually
- The ability to develop and implement visual storytelling techniques
- The ability to apply visual thinking strategies in business settings

Applicability of the subject

Basis for all other modules of the course. This module can be used by following degree programs: Business Administration, IBAEX, Economics, Business Law, Economics, computer science.

The nature of the examination / requirements for the award of credit points

Assessment (ungraded): Pass / Fail.

Through a series of group exercises, students perceive their personal learning progress and work towards a final presentation of their course project.

Teaching and learning forms

Project seminar, action-learning. Few lectures from the trainer, lots of exercises, group work, presentations, discussions (and what is otherwise suitable for the subject)

Participation in introductory course / start course (”Einführung ins Studium”);

recommended for main studies

This course is suitable for all students who need to effectively analyze, formulate and communicate complex information in a professional context.
