Contents of the subject

  • The instruments and concepts of corporate compliance and risk management

Qualification aims of the subject

  • Have gained an overview and understanding of fundamental concepts and approaches of corporate risk and compliance management (goals 1a, 3b)
  • Are able to critically evaluate, assess and manage corporate risks (goals 4a, 5c, 5d)
  • Are able to assess and evaluate the determinants of corporate compliance (goals 4a, 5d)
  • Understand the general approach of contract lawyers (goals 3b, 4a)

Applicability of the subject

This module is exclusively offered for the MBA Master of Business Administration. The module is taught in the first and second study phase which provides the political-legal, macroeconomic and microeconomic framework for other modules, in particular for Module 8 “Formulating Strategy” and Elective Modules 10-12.

Prof Dr Solveig Reißig-Thust

Prof. Dr. Solveig Reißig-Thust is a distinguished academic and consultant, specializing in business administration with a focus on controlling and managerial accounting. Her educational journey includes studying Business Administration at the University of Bayreuth, followed by the attainment of a doctorate (Dr. rer. pol.) in 2003, concentrating on the structuring of relationships between venture capital companies and start-up enterprises.

Prof. Dr. Solveig Reißig-Thust, an accomplished academic and seasoned consultant, has a rich professional background. Having worked as a Management Consultant and Project Manager at CTcon GmbH in Vallendar and Düsseldorf, she honed her expertise. Her academic journey includes graduating from the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar and the University of Bayreuth. Currently serving as the Academic Director of the Berlin Part-time MBA, Prof. Dr. Reißig-Thust seamlessly integrates her practical experience and academic prowess, contributing significantly to the realms of business administration and management.

As a founding member and board member of "jem e.V. – Jugend entdeckt Marktwirtschaft" since 2004, she actively participates in an association dedicated to helping young people explore the market economy. Prof. Dr. Reißig-Thust's academic career took a teaching turn in 2004 when she became a lecturer at FHW Berlin. Since 2005, she has held the position of Professor of Business Administration at FHW Berlin / BSEL.

Her main areas of teaching include controlling, ratio systems, cost accounting, performance accounting, and project management. Simultaneously, her research activities focus on financing business start-ups, due diligence, value-based management, and beyond budgeting. This dual commitment to teaching and research showcases her comprehensive approach to contributing to the field.

In her practical expertise, Prof. Dr. Reißig-Thust brings a wealth of experience in controlling, ratio systems, cost accounting, performance accounting, and project management. This blend of academic and practical knowledge positions her as a prominent figure in the dynamic realm of business administration, making invaluable contributions to both theory and real-world applications.
